Which may have been because I slept til 2:00 pm, if you recall. But anyway, I slept badly in the night, woke up several times. was awake for a long time and as a result of all of this am now rather tired.

But

mashfanficchick and I both got up around 1:00ish and puttered around, then had cereal for brunch somewhat after 2:00.

Then we watched another episode of MacGyver, which continues to be silly but fun. When that was over I went and showered and dressed, and by the time I finished it was almost 5:00 and time for me to go to the Bronx for my Al-anon meeting.

I took the subway to Flushing and the 50 bus from there and got to the Bronx by 6:15, so I had time to get my traditional pizza for dinner.

The meeting was small, just me and L, and we cancelled the second meeting so I got to the bus just before 8:00.

Got home before 9:00, and Teamed the FWiB. I had an awful lot of trouble getting Teams to log in on the computer, so we used the phone until I did and then we switched to that, and it worked OK.

That's about all, we talked til a bit after 10:00, and then I started catching up on the internet.

One thing I did was check my Funko order status. It now says the package was lost. Nothing about sending a new one. I will contact them tomorrow.

I also called the Kid, she didn't pick up of course so I texted. Hopefully she'll either call or text back.

I made Facebook contact with Liz M, the very old friend I sent a Christmas card to! She accepted my friend request, haven't heard anything from her yet though.

And I found out how much of a difference Kerry Gold makes when you're making a butter-based sauce. It transformed my alfredo sauce. So damn good. Worth the expenseif you're going to do something butter forward.

And here are the fannish recs. Nothing from me. I've been stuck on my Hazbin WIP and finally edited a chapter that's been sitting on my to-do stuff and it's been a chapter I posted over a month ago...fantastic. How did I fuck that up and how has it been a month since I posted (oh right 3 sentence ficathon and half a moon, fun but diverting.)

I'm also trying to decide if I start a new novel or combine it with an idea I already have.

Update post time.

Tuesday night was the last good ship murder which ended up being… depressing.

Wednesday we went down to Home Bargains to get some stuff that didn’t come with the food shop. I went in Game beforehand and got a Xenk figure, which was finally discounted! (And some Pokémon cards) it’s funny I find him after I switched in the Dungeons Of Dragons blu ray (but haven’t watched yet). In Home Bargains, ironically, was something I’d hoped to get from Game, some lil buildable ghost Pokémon which are very cute.

Thursday was an odd day. The replacement xbox memory card came and it works! I was worried that it was the slot that was the issue so I’m glad it wasn’t. (So now it’s just a matter of reinstalling things.) I built a Lego set I got I’d got with the creel house (a flying moon car which is pretty cool!) and watched two more traitors Ireland eps (it’s so chaotic).

Then I just went… blank. I couldn’t settle on doing anything. For about three hours I just switched between things and sat there, not wanting to do or watch anything, I went… blank. It’s been a long time since I’ve been like that and it was really annoying.

Eventually I did settle on watching a thing, an episode of Found Footage the series (pretty good for a short thing) but then just went to bed.

This morning I was still feeling a bit bleh so didn’t even wanna try focussing on uni stuff. It did fade after a few hours lying in bed.

After noms I went out to town, glad that it wasn’t raining.

I did some wandering around before the cinema. I managed to get a Pokémon boxset and Weapons blu ray from Asda, plus they had the Lego Christmas thing I’d seen in game and missed out on. Then I went in primark and got Dustin’s hellfire tee, along with a reduced Squawk sweater. And smiths had the Game Changers book so I grabbed that too. (I also got a drink from there and it was awful)

(And speaking of Pokémon, Fire Red and Leaf Green are coming to switch next week though I’m baffled that they announced it now and not during the Pokémon presents thing then)

Then I went to the cinema to see Cold Storage and Send Help.

They Will Kill You: First time seeing this trailer and I’m very sold on it! It’s about a woman starting a job in a building, only it turns out it’s a pretence and the building is a trap to sacrifice her (only she can kick ass)
Ready Or Not 2: First time seeing this too. I’ve not seen the first one, though it was mentioned on horror’s greatest but this made me wanna watch it. This looks fun and Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar!
How To Make A Killing: This one looks fun too, I’d seen something about it when I was having waffle fries and after seeing the trailer I do wanna see it
The Bride: a new trailer (I think, it feels different than the last one) and it does look pretty good.
Scream: more a spot than a proper trailer. I’m of two minds about it.
Passenger: not heard of this and I am intrigued, it gave me a similar energy to a fake documentary q ep.

So ye a lot of films I’m now more curious about/wanna try and see.

This was a quiet month, the quietest so far. Mostly that’s cause of the holidays but also cause of the weather and ice. But that does make the order of favs feel easy: Labyrinth, Anaconda, The Boy And The Heron.

30: Another World (+ q and a), Iron Lung
14: Looney Tunes The Day The Earth Blew Up, Kangaroo

This month was more like normal. I can’t really separate my favs, which are Iron Lung and Kangaroo which couldn’t be more different. Then I’d say it’s Another Workd, Return To Silent Hill and then Looney Tunes.

This weekend is gonna be mostly resting, maybe watching Dungeons And Dragons (or The Beauty, or Heated Rivalry) and the Winter Olympics closing ceremony. (And maybe finally do the next Feb stuff I love post cause I’ve been so tuned out lately but we’ll see.)

Hopefully too I’ll start the Voyager game and fic but…

Was woken up early by the sound of the work they were doing on the building front entrance, but after they finished, went back to sleep for quite a few hours. Woke up again around 2:00.

Had breakfast, well, brunch really, with

mashfanficchick. We had gluten free sourdough bread with cream cheese and lox. Very delicious.

mashfanficchick, having had melatonin the night before, which affected zer very strongly, went back to bed, but I stayed up and puttered on my phone and played solitaire and basically killed time til 7:00 when I Teamed the FWiB on my phone. Teams was working correctly today so that's good.

We talked til almost 8:30, when we got off, and I called Middle Brother, who is fine, but hasn't done anything of note recently.

Then

mashfanficchick got up and we had some snacks, and watched this week's episode of Will Trent. That was highly enjoyable.

Then, after some thinking about what we should do next,

mashfanficchick suggested we should watch something classic that I had never watched when it was on, that we had discussed some days ago... MacGyver. The original, from 1985, show.

So we watched the pilot episode on Tubi, and although it was sort of silly it was also fun. We had dinner after that, and discussed if we would watch more. I said sure.

So after dinner we watched the second episode on Tubi, which was even sillier than the first, but still a lot of fun.

And then ze decided to go to bed, and I'm borrowing the laptop to do this.

Mostly because I am out of communities to rec.

I am thankful tonight wasn't worse. It was scary. I was walking out of the kitchen with a full glass of water. My bad knee buckled. I caught myself before I was all the way down. The water nearly hit my laptop. It's okay. I'm okay. The knee and ankle are swelling. Not happy about this. I wanted to hike this weekend. I had even talked to the wildlife prof and she said I can go with her when she's free (I'm not really able to go alone.)

This makes me very sad. I can't get this leg stronger but I have hope. Yes I do.

Because you know why? I think I said it yesterday but it bears repeating. My water aerobics class is a go. Send up a little well wish for me that I don't hurt myself. But this is my third initiative that has gone through at work and I'm proud of myself.

I'm also thankful that for once MOST of the students I contacted about not passing actually contacted me for help. I want so much to see this. I might not be able to help them but we can try. One's mother (a coworker) reached out too to tell me how upset her child was and how nervous they were to come talk to me. I reached out and we talked and I think that it will help.

I have been curious about what I was doing twenty years ago, and this afternoon while I was doing my facial treatments, I took out my old journals.

I wrote a poem, and I’m not sure if it’s haiku-inspired or sijo-inspired. I am not sharing it because it is “good.” I am sharing it because it is pure, unadulterated me at 26:

I make my evening
of roses, antique lace and milk
For a moment I am a belle.

I wanted to add some commas in there when I typed that out, but I resisted. What was I talking about? I have no idea, but it’s interesting to ponder.

I was working night shift at the time, which was really hard on me both physically and emotionally. I really dreaded the evening, when I would leave for work. My shift started at 7 p.m., so I probably left around 6:15. So I was probably constructing a fantasy evening that contrasted as much with the real one as much as possible, an evening of pink and ivory colors, fragrance, and femininity.

At some point, I had to start wearing glasses rather than contacts because my eyes hurt so badly. I cringed at my looks. And I taped my safety glasses to my glasses, so they wouldn’t slip off, to add insult to injury.

I try not to think too badly of night shift now, because if my plant ever closes, or I’m laid off (the former seems likely at this point), I may have to take what I can get for a time. My biorhythms have changed a lot, too. My shift starts at 7 a.m. now, and I’m in agony. Years ago, my shift started at 5 a.m., and it was no problem. Manufacturing plants have a special way of coming up with the most sadistic shifts ever. The one I left to come here was 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Also, I have had to start wearing glasses again lately. My eyes were hurting so badly in contacts. When I got my eye exam last week, I got my first progressive lenses prescription. Today was my first day wearing progressive lenses. It’s not nearly as big of a deal as I thought, and I can read the tiny, tiny text on the little chemical bottles at work, which has been a daily struggle for me for a long time, since I am constantly having to record lot numbers and expiration dates for stuff I use in my lab notebook.

I feel like my glasses look like the ones that a girl I once admired online wore (she doesn’t seem to keep any accounts anymore). She wore medieval costumes sometimes, and somehow I feel a step closer to making my medieval outfits.

All in all, I am doing a lot better right here, right now, in 2026, than I was in 2006. I wish I could visit with my past self, because I would have a lot to say.

I keep thinking 'okay, I must be out of Goes Wrong ideas now' and then writing more! After seeing The Play That Goes Wrong, I'm really curious about how awkward things were between Annie and the rest of the drama society afterwards.
